It’s been a while since I’ve done a Twitter Talk post and, mostly, it’s because I haven’t had much time to spend on the site. But, as I decided to catch up on case law reading this week I also meandered over to Twitter to see what topical human rights-related articles I could find. Here is what I found noteworthy:

Leaving the law aside for a moment, out here in Manitoba we have finally been experiencing some fabulously sunny and warm weather. Although I do wish our flooding situation was over, sadly, it is not. Far too many people (including some I know personally) still cannot go back to their homes and likely won’t get back until next spring — yes, you read that right — next spring. Many folks are being left to consider relocating completely from their longtime communities. Right now, I feel very lucky to have a house on dry land and a place to come to every night that I can call ‘home’.
For those of you elsewhere in the country, I hope the weather is treating you well and that you also find yourselves with a ‘fortunate feeling.’
Here’s wishing everyone an enjoyable summer!

Ability Axis, an organization whose goal is to increase the inclusion and workforce participation rates of groups who have traditionally experienced employment barriers, is bringing an Employment Expo to Manitoba on May 19, 2011. The Expo is going to feature a job/career fair focused on connecting Manitoba employers with people with disabilities, historically one of the most, if not the most, underrepresented groups in the workplace and, in my view, a truly untapped resource. In addition to the job fair, there will be an exhibit hall, speakers, workshops and a “Best Practices” breakfast to kick it all off. You can find out more about the Expo by checking out this link.
They also have a Facebook page which continues to announce the many employers signed up to participate.
Looks to be a great event. Kudos to Ability Axis for making this happen.
