Have you ever had one of those weeks where you are ridiculously busy yet feel like you’ve accomplished nothing? Well, that’s where I’m at as I close out this week. I think the “parent juggle” swings into high gear in June with everything from sports events to recitals to field trips and school year ending celebrations needing to be attended to while somewhere in-between you have to figure out how you’re going to work. No wonder we all need vacation time afterward!

Lack of work accomplishments aside, I have had a chance to read a few interesting things on Twitter this week which I thought I would pass along. So for the week ending June 11, 2010, here is my pick of the most interesting human-rights-in-the-workplace tweets:

Good post on a possible way to tackle the thorny issue of managers engaging in romantic relationships with their staff. RT @yosie23: Romance in the Workplace http://bit.ly/9sPbn1

I suspect this goes for Canadian teens too. RT @Kimberly_Roden: Teens facing workplace sexual harassment http://ow.ly/1V7aq

Yes they do! RT @AntoniaZ: Sorry, professor, but women do still face hiring discrimination http://bit.ly/9Qq0zW

Great suggestions! RT @Sandeep_Tatla: “Thumbs up” not always sign of approval – http://bit.ly/dgLf08

Have a great weekend!

On a personal note, we’re in the midst of full-fledged “independent living/life skills bootcamp” at my house. My sister has decided she wishes to move out on her own and experience independent living. With the assistance of an agency and our provincial government, the plan is for her to move into a home with support in the next few months. So, I’ve been trying to teach her everything I can over the past while about living on your own (all that “fun stuff” like cooking, cleaning, washing your clothes, managing your money, etc. etc.) and will continue to do so as she makes this transition. It is an exciting and nerve-wracking time all wrapped up into one. But, I’m so proud of my sister and happy to see her happy. She’s looking forward to her future in ways I’ve never seen before. It’s amazing what people can do when they are given the opportunity.

Have a fabulous weekend!

I'm thankful I was able to get out with my family yesterday and enjoy our one whole day of summer yesterday! (We almost didn't recognize the blue sky and sun when it showed up in the morning). Today, we got hit by a thunderstorm which had me wondering if we were going to leave the house at all! Guess I should be thankful we have a roof over our heads in order to continually duck this lousy weather.

Anyway, amidst the weather wranglings, there has been a lot of interesting discussion on Twitter during the past week covering everything from enhancing workplace diversity, to how workplace sexual harassment is morphing with the new technologies and even to how those new technologies are impacting employer behaviors. You'll also see a link to a great video that shows how a person who is blind navigates the internet on his computer. Happy reading/viewing!
