Education & Training

I use my legal and training experience to conduct interactive and participatory on- or off-site human rights related educational sessions on a wide variety of topics for workplace participants.  Working directly with you, I develop courses and materials that are carefully tailored to the trainees’ needs, from entry level employees to executive level management.   I also provide customized investigation training (not limited to human rights complaints).  Whether your investigators are based in the public or private sector, I can teach them best practices for the type of investigations you typically engage in.

Hiring an independent trainer like me enables a more neutral learning space for trainees, assists trainees engage more readily with the material and allows trainees to more freely ask questions they might not otherwise.  As a result, the training becomes more effective.

And, I’m not just about coming in and doing a generic one-day course, expecting everything to sink in and then leave.  I want people to ‘get it’.  I want the training to stick.  I do this by offering my clients training packages that can include:

  • pre-training assessment of the needs and skill levels of each attendee;
  • incorporating relevant workplace policies, examples and scenarios into the training material;
  • follow-up support service post-training via phone, fax or e-mail to enable you and/or the people who attended the training to contact me confidentially for 30 days post-session with any training-related questions.

Some of the topics I have been hired to provide training on are as follows:

  • What is personal harassment?
  • Discrimination in the workplace;
  • The duty to accommodate in the workplace;
  • Human rights complaints in the workplace: how to recognize them and when to initiate an investigation;
  • Workplace harassment: the impact of the Manitoba Workplace, Safety & Health Regulation
  • Workplace harassment: What it is and how to create effective strategies to address it – essential skills for supervisors
  • How to investigate a human rights complaint
  • Workplace human rights complaints: Myths, Fears and Realities
  • Customized investigation training for public sector investigators
